The author continued to describe the altercation with her mother, sharing that she felt “hot and sticky” tears streaming down her face as she remained steadfast in her belief to stand up to him.
“‘You always hated me,’” Shari remembers her mother saying. “Ever since you were five, I could see it in your eyes. The way you looked at me, the way you judged me. You never appreciated everything I did for you, all the sacrifices I made.'
As for how she responded, Shari remembers saying, “That's not true,” I choked out. “I never hated you, Mom. I was just afraid of you.'
And while Shari is ready to tell her story in the memoir, set for release on January 7, it's been a tumultuous journey for her since her mother and Jodi received their respective sentences last February. In October, she spoke out against a Lifetime documentary that depicted a version of her family's history.
