At just 28 years old, Zendaya has already been working in the entertainment industry for almost two decades.
While fans are more than used to seeing child actors take a difficult path, Zendaya is one child star who has never been caught slipping up. But even though she seems to have it all figured out, there are still challenges to being famous at a young age.
THE Challengers the star opened up about her criticisms of fame The Hollywood Reporter for this year's Actress Roundtable, which featured her in conversation with Angelina Jolie, Mikey Madison, Tilda Swinton, Zoe Saldaña and Demi Moore. Even though Zendaya admits that her public upbringing isn't something she would change, there are still factors that have made it difficult for her to grow as a person.
“I wouldn't change it, but there are things I would have liked to experience in private, you know?” she explained, speaking of the three years she spent Shake it with Bella Thorne. “Because you discover who you are in front of the world. And you say to yourself, “I'm trying to do it right. I want to make everyone happy, but I don't really know who I am yet. I have no idea what I'm doing.
She went on to stress that she was still “very grateful” for the way her career “turned out” given the early start to her career.
Having worked steadily since the age of just 14, the actress admitted she is still “discovering” who she is outside of being in front of a camera.
“What brings me joy besides work? For me, it was about trying new things, no matter how stupid it sounds, like pottery or anything with your hands,” she told the outlet. “It's just about to try to figure out what my life is outside of the presentation of who I am.”
