Which stars were excluded?

The 82nd annual Golden Globes will honor Hollywood's best and brightest tonight. But as usual, movie and TV fans are upset by some truly shocking snubs.

This year's list of winners reminds us just how impressive this year has been in the world of film and television.

But the downside of such quality content is that many worthy performances — which might have been nominated in another recent year — were overlooked by the Globes organization.

Here is our list of the most surprising snubs of 2024:

Lady Gaga — 'Joker: Folie à Deux'

Fans had high hopes for the sequel to 2019 Jokera surprise box office success that earned Joaquin Phoenix his first Oscar.

Alas, Phoenix and director Todd Phillips failed to capture lightning in a bottle.

Not only did the sequel flop in theaters, but Phoenix and co-star Lady Gaga were overlooked by the Globes.

Gaga did what she could with soft material, and she soared during some of the film's musical numbers. But the overall snub (Joker 2 was excluded in all categories) is just another in a long line of embarrassments for a film cursed from its conception.

Ryan Reynolds – “Deadpool and Wolverine”

Superhero fare doesn't usually make a splash during awards season.

But Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool has defied all odds in the past. When Ryan first donned the red leather mask in 2016, he was nominated for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy.

This time, however, Globes voters were less impressed.

Reynolds and his partner Hugh Jackman were both overlooked and the film received only one nomination, for Best Cinematography and Box Office.

The category, now in its second year, honors the most popular films of the year. We thought hundreds of millions of dollars in box office revenue would have been reward enough, but what do we know?

Meryl Streep — “Only Murders in the Building”

With three Oscars, three Emmys, and nine Golden Globes, Mery Streep doesn't really have a problem being recognized during awards season.

In fact, she might be relieved that she no longer needs to free up space on her trophy shelf.

Yet Meryl's snub for her work in Only murders in the building stings, if only because the cinema legend deserves recognition for doing top-notch work in a rare comedic role.

Jonathan Bailey – “Bad Guy”

No one was surprised by the news that Wicked scored big with four nominations, including Best Musical or Comedy, Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy (Cynthia Erivo) and Best Supporting Actress in a Musical or Comedy (Ariana Large).

But the beloved musical received surprising snubs as director Jon M. Chu was not nominated and Jonathan Bailey was overlooked for his work as Fiyero Tigelaar.

The British stage and screen veteran, best known for his work on The Bridgerton Chronicles – stole just about every scene he was in (no mean feat among such gifted partners), but as we said earlier, it was an unusually busy year in terms of talent of actor.

We're sure Bailey has many years of accolades ahead of him, but this snub still has Wicked fans mutter insults to Globes voters.

Saoirse Ronan — “Blitz”, “The Outrun”

Next up is Saoirse Ronan, who was doubly snubbed for her performance in The Blitz And Overtaking.

On paper, the two roles (a mother enduring the London Blitz and a recovering alcoholic who finds redemption working with endangered birds) sound like catnip to Globe voters.

But neither film made much of a splash with critics, and so Saoirse (who won the 2018 Globe for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy for Lady Bird) may be forced to endure a rare awards season without a nomination.

We are sure she will come back next year.

Michael Keaton – “Goodrich”, “Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice”,

To complete the list, there is another double snub.

Michael Keaton had one of the best years of his career with stellar performances in both long-awaited roles. Beetle juice sequel and little-seen independent drama Goodrich.

Unfortunately, it seems the beloved Hollywood veteran is another victim of the acting embarrassment of riches this year.

Always a good sport, Keaton might attend tonight's ceremony anyway.

It would be enough for one of the candidates to pronounce their name three times!
