Fox's “Bones” didn't have such a dark ending as fans might expect. However, its characters' respective paths to happy endings aren't what you'd call easy. Just ask John Boyd's James Aubrey, a young FBI agent who joins the main cast in season 10 and ends up partnering Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz).
During his three seasons on the show, Aubrey starts out as a concerned and sometimes mistrustful semi-outsider who mostly gets a pass because Lance Sweet (John Francis Daley) vouches for him. He then takes off to his own after Sweets untimely death and becomes a key member of the team for the remainder of the series. During this time, Aubrey suffers serious injuries, deals with serious family troubles, and even ends his high-profile relationship with Jessica Warren (Laura Spencer) just as the show comes to a close — albeit in true series finale resolution to end things. On the plus side, he's eager to find new love with Karen Delph (Sara Rue).
“Bones” is the kind of show that doesn't do much damage to a young actor's resume, and Boyd already had a lot of experience in major productions when he joined the cast. After all, he had already appeared in major films such as M. Night Shyamalan's 2006 fantasy film Lady in the Water and Ben Affleck's 2012 Oscar-winning thriller Argo. He was also a part of The main actors of “24” season 8playing drone expert Arlo Glass. Add to that all “Bones,” and it's no surprise that Boyd has been working steadily since the Fox procedural ended in 2017. Here is what he has done.
John Boyd has continued his impressive career as a TV procedural
After “Bones” ended, John Boyd hadn't been away from law enforcement shows for too long. In 2019, he moved on to procedural great Dick Wolff's latest CBS hit, The FBI. Boyd joined the show in Season 2 and has been a main cast member ever since. His role is FBI Special Agent Stuart Scola, a man who combines smooth-talking street smarts with an Ivy League education and a truly peculiar background as a Wall Street stockbroker — an odd detail since Boyd's “Bones” character is a stockbroker. son. In this capacity, Boyd has also appeared in episodes of the FBI series FBI: International and FBI: Most Wanted.
In addition to his continued success in procedurals, Boyd has also starred in two films following his Bones success. In 2017, he had a small role in Todd Haynes' ICS Cannes Award-winning mystery drama Wonderstruck. Then in 2018, he appeared in the action thriller Peppermint, directed by Pierre Morel. However, after playing Special Agent Scola, Boyd has followed the same career pattern as in “Bones” and focused on his big TV role.
“Bones” is currently streaming on Hulu.
