Jean Smart urges TV networks not to present Hollywood awards during LA fires

Jean Smart has a message for television executives the ongoing fires in Los Angeles.

“Attention! With all due respect, during Hollywood's holiday season, I hope that one of the networks that broadcast the upcoming awards will seriously consider NOT airing them and donating the proceeds they would have raised to the victims of the fires and the firefighters.” Hack star wrote via Instagram on Wednesday, December 8.

Smart's request is different Hollywood events were affected at least four fires in Los Angeles. The Critics Choice Awards – set for Sunday, January 12, will air on E! — has been postponed, as has the announcement of the Oscar nominations. The grand opening was supposed to take place on Friday, January 17, and is now set for Sunday, January 19, according to The Hollywood Reporter. (The Oscars are scheduled for March 2 on ABC.)

“This ongoing tragedy has already deeply affected our community. Our thoughts and prayers are with those battling the devastating fires and with all those affected,” Critics Choice Awards CEO Joe Berlin the statement said. The Critics Choice Awards will now air live on January 26.

Before the fires broke out on Tuesday, January 7, Smart, 73, was celebrated at the Golden Globe ceremony on Sunday, January 5, where she won Best Actress in a TV Comedy Series for Hack. She took the award home Only in the murder buildings Selena Gomez and Abbott Primary Schools Quinta Brunson.

Many Hollywood stars have been affected by the Los Angeles fires, fueled by strong Santa Ana winds. By Wednesday evening, another fire had broken out in the Hollywood Hills, a neighborhood popular with celebrities.

“Okay, there's a fire right outside my house,” Hough said via Instagram Stories in a clip recorded at her home. “We're with friends, but everybody in the Hollywood Hills, I've just had this intuitive feeling that we're in the same bowl with how everything surrounds Hollywood, and now it's downtown Hollywood. Everybody just needs to evacuate. Go, go , go, go, go. Right now.”

After sharing that post, Hough updated her followers with a second video taken in the car. She was with her dog Sunny.

“Sauli and I are safe and we're driving, but the reason I say 'evacuate now,' even if it's not near you, if you have somewhere to go, is because: there's traffic,” she said. “And you'll be stuck in traffic. And that's not good. So everyone, please stay safe and send prayers to all the first responders and firefighters, and just pull together – you know, all you can do is be there for each other.
