If there's one person who knows how to drive people into a frenzy, it's the former Basketball Wives star Draya Michele.
Amid the devastating wildfires ravaging the state of California, the entrepreneur and controversial celebrity decided to promote an air purifier partnership, including a discount code for his supporters.
“The air quality is so bad, even toxic. I use the @sereniby_official air purifier to make sure my kids and pets are breathing fresh, double-filtered air,” she said in the post. “The brand is now offering $200 off when you use my link in bio. Peace of mind is priceless, but having it is more valuable than most things in the world. The reality star also included the hashtag “#prayforla.”
Although Draya is no stranger to internet annoyances, comments have poured in on social media accusing her of being an opportunist in a time when people are losing their homes and livelihoods.
“Draya is using LA fires,” one user wrote. “To promote an air purifier on his Instagram. Like she never does anything right. The tone is dull.
She then limited comments on the specific post in order to mitigate the damage to her partnership; however, some people thought she was misjudged…this time.
“It’s not tone deaf,” one user commented. “Airbnb did the exact same thing using celebrities to spread their message.”
Another said:
“This is even more true for residents in surrounding areas whose homes are intact but are still affected by the smoke spreading everywhere. Obviously, she's not trying to sell to people who have lost everything. There is no point either in giving it to them when they have already left the region.”
Still, that hasn't stopped others from hoarding it, as Draya makes herself an easy target.
“At least she could give them away,” one user commented. “But selling a product at a time like this is sure proof that creamed corn is good for the brain.”
Well, maybe his heart was in the right place.
