THE Today the show is undergoing a major reorganization.
As you've probably heard, Hoda Kotb resigned last week after nearly 17 years on the anchor desk. And she was replaced by Craig Melvin, who will now sit alongside Savannah Guthrie for the third hour of the show.
Obviously, these changes received a lot of media coverage. But another personnel shakeup has been largely overlooked.
Where is Sheinelle Jones?
If you are a regular Today Viewer, you may have noticed that Sheinelle Jones was absent from the series before Christmas.
She missed “Hodabration” week in the last few episodes of Kotb and, oddly enough, Sheinelle's colleagues barely acknowledged her absence.
“Sheinelle is on leave,” Al Roker briefly explained on January 10 before introducing her temporary replacement, Jill Martin.
Unsurprisingly, the situation has sparked concern among fans.
“Another day without @SheinelleJones on @TODAYshow and no explanation? What is happening? We need answers,” an X (former Twitter user) named Terrace Miller tweeted during this morning's show.
And like Parade points out, Terrace was not alone in her confusion:
“Not even a recorded track from @SheinelleJones on the @TODAYshow for @hodakotb's last day?! This seems strange. Hope she's okay,” another user wrote at Hoda's farewell party last week.
“I wonder if she was fired or didn't take a pay cut or something because they don't mention her. Best wishes Hoda and best to Sheinelle, hope all is well! wrote a third viewer.
“I loved the HODA movie, but I was really wondering why Sheinelle Jones wasn't in the cast?” » asked a fourth person.
“@TODAYshow can you tell us where Sheinelle Jones is? So strange that she misses #Hoda K's farewell! » intervened a fifth.
A permanent mystery
While Sheinelle's absence remains unexplained, it's important to note that this isn't the first time she's been away from Today.
Sheinelle took a brief break in November 2024 in order to attend a conference.
“I wasn't there on Friday, I went just outside of Philadelphia to speak with the Society of Professional Women,” she said upon her return on November 18.
At the time, Jones explained that she “stayed until the very end and spoke to almost every woman after the film was over.” I love this stuff.
So it's possible that Sheinelle is simply on hiatus and still planning to return to the anchor desk. But the silence of NBC and Today is definitely annoying.
We will have further updates on this developing story as new information becomes available.
