Another heartbreaking experience on Shields' path to realizing that doctors don't always know what's best and that she is her own body's best advocate:

After Shields became a mother of two, she wrote, she opted to have a lip reduction—not for cosmetic reasons, but because she had sore lips since high school, joking with her best friend who had the same problem that it was like having “two little speed bags” between her legs.

However, this was still considered a cosmetic procedure, so Shields was referred to a plastic surgeon in Los Angeles who was supposedly the best.

Only after the four-hour operation did the doctor tell him that he had also taken the opportunity to give him “a bit of rejuvenation” there too, because “everything is more relaxed “” after giving birth, Shields wrote.

She'd had two C-sections, she told the doctor, but “he acted like he was doing me a favor.” Shields was, in turn, “horrified, but also lost,” she wrote, recalling that she “returned home in a stupor.”

The “bonus procedure” did not improve her sex life, Shields wrote, but even though she had been pleased with the results, she was still angry. However, she never took legal action and even wondered at one point whether she had misinterpreted the whole situation and was lucky for the gift.

But if it happened now, she wrote, “my reaction would not be so generous.”

In fact, she added, “My feeling is basically a giant middle finger. Fk this guy!”
