Brooke Shields shares details about her divorce from Andre Agassi

Brooke Shields releases a new book today in which the former model opens up about her split from the tennis star Andre Agassi.

The “Endless Love” star was over-sexualized as a child actress and model, and at first found Agassi's fame comforting as she was no longer in the media spotlight.

“It was the transition I needed,” she recalled. “I wasn't strong enough to separate from my mother on my own. I kept withdrawing. It was also good to feel inferior with Andre because he was so famous and number 1 in the world.”

“Everywhere we went, he had a lot of bodyguards,” she continued. “I could sit because it wasn't my world. He was the first to get out of the car when we arrived at the events. It was a real relief.”

In her new book, Brooke Shields Is Not Allowed to Grow Old, the actress noted that she was “glad” that she and Agassi never had children together, something she said during their divorce.

“Be thankful we didn't have kids,” he said, “because I wouldn't have made it easy for you.” … It would have been a disaster when we broke up, he made it clear,” Shields wrote, per PEOPLE.

The “Blue Lagoon” actress also opened up about the conversation she had with Agassi about gaining weight.

“When I opened up about my insecurities to my first husband, he always said, 'I wish you could see yourself the way I see myself,'” she wrote. “However, when I said, 'Will you still love me if I big and fat?” (I mean, when did I get pregnant—an unfair question anyone would ask another person I know!) I could never wait for his answer.

Shields added that Agassi told her, “I love you too much to let you get big and fat!” I certainly didn't see it coming, and admittedly I started to spin a bit, but we all know how that relationship turned out.

After the surgery, her doctor advised her that he had performed an unwanted vaginal reconstruction on Shields.

“When it was over, the doctor gave me an overview of how it went,” she wrote. “'I went into great detail,' he said, to my relief and delight. And then, 'I was there for four hours, and you know what I did? I stressed you out a bit! I give you a little strength! ''

Shield was shocked by the news and wrote: “Wait what? I was shocked, speechless. I don't remember how I responded or even if I said anything. Should I have said thank you?”

Despite the doctor's assumption that she would be happy with the procedure, Shields says she is “angry.”

“This man surgically altered my body without my consent,” she noted. “And he thought he was doing me a favor by doing the 'bonus procedure'? The sheer gall of it pissed me off.”

“Having the most intimate parts of my body in the public eye for so long… was enough,” she wrote. “All I could think was, 'Why can't everyone leave my v-gin alone?' (Even now, as I write this, I know this is going to make headlines. Whatever. Women deserve all the information.)”

Shield shared that she never spoke to the doctor who performed the unwanted procedure again because she was insecure.

“I never took action against this doctor,” she wrote. “I never even talked to him about it again, partly because I started to question myself.”

She continued: “To wonder if he was right that I should feel happy. Or maybe, I thought, it was a needed improvement for my man, who was secretly unhappy but would never have dared to broach the subject of my 'helplessness'. there?' It's crazy to me that these ideas even entered my head.”

The “Mother of the Bride” star also noted that she didn't speak out at the time because she didn't want to be the subject of headlines. However, if it happened to him today, “I'd make my own screaming headline and spray it everywhere.”
