Kelly Stafford Of course, she was worried about getting her sick family on the Los Angeles Rams' private jet for their playoff trip to Arizona.
After Rams playoff showdown against the Minnesota Vikings on Monday, January 13, was moved from SoFi Stadium in Inglewood to State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, due to the Los Angeles fires, the Rams organization contributed a plane so the entire team and their families could travel together for the game.
Kelly, wife of the Rams quarterback Matthew Staffordwas suffering from the flu at the time, which had also affected other members of her family. Kelly and Matthew have four daughters: twins Sawyer and Chandler7, Hunter6 and Tyler4.
“We were sick on that flight,” Kelly admitted on the Wednesday, Jan. 15, episode “morning after” podcast. “I had a huge guilt factor of, 'Should we be on this plane right now because of everyone around us and everyone who has to play this game?'”
Before boarding, Kelly reached out to other members of the Rams family for advice on how to handle the situation.
“They said, 'Get on that plane.' We all have to be together,” Kelly said. “It was so incredible for me to hear because it was a bit like, 'Should I stay with my kids?'”
Kelly was also blessed by her husband, who insisted that his wife and daughters accompany him on the trip.
“Matthew said, 'No, we'll do whatever it takes.' We all get on this plane. We're going to be together right away,” Kelly said.
Despite all the uncertainty, Kelly was thankful she took the leap of faith to attend the game — a 27-9 victory for the Rams that earned them a trip to Philadelphia to face the Eagles in the NFL divisional round on Sunday, Jan. 19.
“That win, aside from the Super Bowl (in 2022), was probably my favorite win as a Ram,” Kelly said.
However, the game was certainly not without its difficulties. Using her Instagram story, Kelly revealed that one of her girls spent most of the game sick.
“This girl ❤️. Amidst her puking in the bathroom, “Mommy are we still winning,” Kelly wrote alongside a photo of her daughter hugging Matthew after the game. “She couldn't wait to be in his arms.”
In a separate post, Kelly wrote: “Nice to watch my boyfriend but we're glad the game is over.”
