Why Savannah Guthrie wasn't here today, January 16

Craig Melvin keep it Today loudly with the help of a familiar face.

Savannah Guthrie was noticeably absent from Melvin's fourth day as official co-host of NBC's morning show for a very understandable reason. Melvin kicked off the Jan. 16 show by explaining why his colleague was already taking a day off not even a week into his term. Hoda KotbThe replacement at the news desk.

“Welcome to Today“I'm so glad you're with us on this busy Thursday morning,” the 45-year-old told viewers.Laura Jarrett “It happened, Savannah is in a bit of trouble.”

Of course, Melvin had no hard feelings toward Guthrie as she was staying home recovering from an undisclosed illness.

“I know what you’re thinking,” he added jokingly, “that after three days of Craig, she decided to break free.”

Jarrett hilariously responded, “I wasn't going to say… But it's nice to be with you.”
