David Lynch, director of Twin Peaks and Mulholland Drive, dead at 78

Lynch rose to fame in the late 1970s with his first feature film. Eraser headwhich introduced his unique, dreamlike cinematic style. Three years later, he earned his first-ever Academy Award nomination for Best Director with the 1980s film. Elephant Manwith John injured, Anthony Hopkins And Anne Bancroft. And even though he never won the trophy in this category, he was still named best director twice, with this one in 1986. Blue velvet and the years 2001 Mulholland Drive. Nearly two decades later, the Academy Awards awarded him an honorary Oscar to celebrate his decades-long contribution to cinema.

And Lynch has also received several accolades for her work in television. In 1991, his show Twin Peaks– which he co-wrote and directed – earned him nominations for writing and directing at the Primetime Emmy Awards. Additionally, his 2017 limited series revival of the mystery drama racked up nominations at the ceremony for Outstanding Directing and Outstanding Cinematography.

And while he will certainly be remembered as a master of his craft, Lynch previously said he had no plans to become a director.
