Rapper AND Maco has died. He was 32.

“It is with heavy hearts that we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of our beloved Ben, known to the world as OG Maco,” the musician's family wrote on Friday, Dec. 27. Instagram announcement on his official page. “His life was a testament to endurance, creativity and boundless love. He touched so many lives and left a lasting impression with his music, passion and unwavering spirit.

The statement continued: “While we mourn this tremendous loss, we also celebrate his extraordinary life that will continue to inspire and uplift others. Mako's influence, both as an artist and as a person, will forever remain in our hearts.

The cause of death of Mako, real name Benedict Chiayulam Ihesiba Jr., has not been released publicly. He was previously reported to have suffered a gunshot wound. TMZ earlier this month, it was claimed that police were called to Mako's Los Angeles home after a gunshot wound. After the trading post, Maco was later on taken to a local hospital for surgery.

“He is currently in critical but stable condition,” Dec. 16 notification from Macy's family to read. “He is receiving the best possible care and we remain hopeful as he continues his fight. We thank you for your understanding, support and continued prayers during this difficult time.”

Mako is survived by his parents and older sister.

“Those wishing to offer condolences, share memories or contact the family, please contact the account,” the statement said on Friday. “Your support means more than words can express. To all of Maco's fans, friends and supporters: Thank you for being there for him throughout his journey.

The report concluded: “Today we celebrate a life that was extraordinary in every way. With love and gratitude, the OG Maco family.

Mako rose to fame in 2014 with the release of his debut single 'U Guessed It' featuring 2 Chainz.

“It's so crazy because every day I wake up and I'm famous,” he quipped Vice later that year. “I think it's for everyone in the city who really makes it. It was a long period of 'You're mad because, you know, I'm nice! And nobody's paying attention!”

At the time, Mako noted that he drew from emotions when creating songs.

“I got away from it. But because I can rap, it's not just pure yelling,” he explained to the outlet. “It's formatted, but it's really just my pure emotion.”
