Kevin Costner's Ups and Downs Over the Years: Divorce, More

Taking the good with the bad. Kevin Costner has received critical acclaim as both an actor and director, but has faced his own personal struggles.

In July 1995, in an interview with Seattle Times, Postman star revealed her 1994 divorce from Cindy Silva after 16 years of marriage. At that time his film Water world — which he co-produced and starred in — just hit theaters and failed to recoup its huge budget.

“This has been the hardest year of my life. I'm no longer with Cindy, my partner since childhood,” Costner said at the time. “And I'm working on this very difficult picture. “My faith was shaken,” he admitted. “Nobody wants their marriage to end, and it did. You will only see the people you love the most, your children half less. It's a huge loss.”

However, after almost 19 years of marriage, the former model filed for divorce in May 2023, citing “irreconcilable differences”. Costner's rep said in a statement TMZ at the time, the director was not happy with his estranged wife's decision.

“It is with great sadness that circumstances beyond his control have come to light that have forced Mr. Costner to participate in the divorce,” the statement said. “We ask that his, Christine and their children's privacy be respected as they go through this difficult time.”

The Thirteen days the actor previously admitted that the fear of becoming a divorced father again almost prevented him from marrying Baumgartner.
