In the poignant caption, the actress reflected on how important her home was to her.
“One of my friends growing up called it 'Church' because the living room's 14-foot stained-glass ceiling cast colorful shadows at the end of the day. And for me it was a sacred place where we felt the safest. Christmas dinners, Easter egg hunts, trick or treating, weddings, birthdays, baby showers… we celebrated the best moments of our lives there,” Zooey wrote. “Family photos lining the hallways, artwork, the piano I learned to play on, wedding china, furniture my great-grandfather built … reminders of generations past: all gone into thin air.”
She continued: “I know we are not alone. Along with another beautiful Los Angeles neighborhood, Alta Den, the streets of my childhood in Pacific Palisades as we knew them have been completely erased. So many people have lost so much. “
Zoeey went on to pay tribute to those who have supported her, her family and her community. She also gave a special shout out to the firefighters who worked tirelessly on the front line, describing them as “real heroes”.
“To all the people who have come out for us and our community and Los Angeles as a whole: Thank you. To the firefighters who have worked around the clock to keep everyone safe: You are our true heroes,” added Zoeey. “To the friends who have been so wonderful during this time think of us: you've texted and called, visited, cooked us meals, sent clothes to my parents who left with nothing, you have distracted us, and you have cried with us when we needed it. To strangers, who have lifted our spirits with kind gestures: you are the true meaning of community .
She concluded: “Thank you all for showing us the goodness in your hearts. You have no idea how much this means to us.”
