After receiving backlash for his decision to perform at Donald Trump's upcoming inauguration, the “Country Grammar” rapper doubled down on his controversial stance. Even though he had been quiet in recent days, Nelly decided to let people know why he would be running for Trump on January 20 during a live broadcast with radio host Willie D.

“I don’t do this for the money. I do this because it's an honor. I respect the office. It doesn’t matter who is in power,” he said. “In the same way that our brothers and sisters go to war to risk their lives for whoever is in power. So if they can risk their lives for whoever is in power, I can certainly perform for whoever is in power.

One thing is certain, two things are certain: when it comes to defending your country, the leap to compare apples and oranges is Olympic level. Nelly went on to say that he feels he should be supported by the community, even though he is positioning himself in favor of a man who regularly makes arguments about white supremacy.

“I thought you were riding for me because I was dressing for my city. I didn’t know I had to agree with your political choices,” he said.

It appears that differences in “political choices” do not include the lasting implications of Trump presidencies on the very communities from which these rappers seek support. He continued,

“I thought it was the things you do (that matter). It's not the things you say that should be done. If you follow what I do, this shouldn't even be an argument. It's the president. He won.

Nelly doesn't seem to understand that it's Exactly things that Trump has do this triggered negative reactions to his inauguration performance. Hopefully, other supporters of the 47th president plan to show up in Nellyville in the future.
