Barry Keoghan has discovered how his father has changed him forever.
During a campaign video on the proposed childcare reforms in the United Kingdom, with the participation of the Foreign Secretary of the United Kingdom David LemmyTaking to Facebook on Friday, Jan. 17, Keoghan, 32, offered a rare comment about being a dad to son Brando, 2, who he shares with an ex-girlfriend. Alison Sandro.
The Saltburn star told Lemmy, 52, that becoming a father has made him think deeply about his own parenting. “When I got older and had my own son, I realized it was such a hard job for her (Keoghan's mother) and my father. And luckily there was a good care system there, which is very important,” Keoghan said. (Keoghan's mother died of a heroin overdose when the actor was 12 Irish Post.)
“You can use your platform and your profile to shine a light on things and anything related to children and care. I always want to help and shine a light on that and bring attention to that,” Keoghan added.
Keoghan became a father while filming in 2023 Saltburntells GQ In a January 2024 interview, that he received a “day off” for the birth of a young girl. “Good for them! Day off and just night photography and night feeding – boom! Keoghan told the outlet at the time. “You see me tired. Yes. Brando. Good old Brando.
Keoghan's latest comments come after the star defended herself online accusations for being a “deadbeat dad”. In an interview on “The Louis Theroux Podcast” in September 2024, Keoghan admitted that online trolls had recently posted insensitive comments.
“There's a lot online. If I didn't have tough skin or strength I wouldn't be sitting here,” Keoghan told the host. Louis Theroux. “Of course (his childhood) would affect me as a father when I had no plans to draw from. People just read that (as) laziness and say, “Oh, that's no excuse to be an absent father.” I am not an absentee father.
The charges are believed to have sparked an interview Keoghan gave Entertainment Weekly earlier this month, in which he talked about his relationship with Brando. “I'll just say this – I didn't have a father figure growing up, so even my relationship with my son is not exactly a father-son relationship because I don't have a figure to draw experiences from and build on,” Keoghan said at the 2024 Toronto International at the film festival on September 12.
Speaking to Thera, 54, Keoghan said: “People like to use my son as ammunition or whatever. And it gives me pause the more attention I've (got) lately and the more public I've become, the less I've posted about my child because I don't think it's fair my child online. And because I ruled it, people draw a narrative and say, “Absentee father, s…, bad dad” and more disgusting things that I wouldn't even repeat. It's just the audacity of some people. It makes me furious.”
Keoghan and Sandro, a dental nurse and orthodontic therapist, dated in early 2021 before ending their relationship in the summer of 2023.
