Kate Winslet reveals her fear of the 'scariest' animal to bother her

Kate Winslet is famous for her fearless roles in films, but she is not completely fearless.

Appearing on the Friday, January 17 episode The late showWinslet, 49, told the host Stephen Colbert for what she calls the world's “scariest animal.”

“I'm honestly not great with cows,” she told Colbert, 60, which drew laughs from both the host and his studio audience. “No, no, no, listen, here's the thing. Somebody told me, 'Oh, you've got to learn to read a field of cows, you've got to be careful, because if they turn, they're gone.'”

The Lee star went on to recall the advice she had received, detailing that if you see “their tails wagging, they're blinking like that and they're flies,” it means they're unhappy. “They can charge you,” she recalled hearing.

Winslet added that she never realized how dangerous cows can be, telling Colbert that she “goes hiking all the time,” where she'll often ride trails “through cow fields.”

“I've decided they're going to push me to the ground,” Winslet gleefully concluded with a straight face. The remark made Colbert wonder, “Has that ever happened?” to which Winslet revealed that cows had indeed haunted her and her mother in the past.

“They took it slow, and then they really accelerated it,” Winslet said. “I'd say there's a couple of borderline gallopers. However, there are quite a few stories in England of people having very nasty run-ins with cows. Very real. So I am extremely wary of the cow field.

She added that she wants to “deal better” with her fears, telling Colbert that “they're really not scary, are they? No, they're not,” before repeating that being wary of cows is a “legitimate fear.”

Colbert's light-hearted interview question was part of what the TV host calls “The Colbert Questionert,” which includes 15 interview questions to help him get to know his guests. Past celebrities who have taken part in the often hysterical series of interviews include George Clooney, Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks.

As for Winslet, her concerns about cows stem from the actress' candid recollections of one of her most famous on-screen moments. September 26 program “Happy Sad Confused” podcast hosted by Josh HorowitzWinslet revealed that she and Titanic costar Leonardo DiCaprio filmed it infamous door scene in “waist-high” water.

“It was a pretty awkward tank,” Winslet told Horowitz. “For the bubble to burst, it was waist-high, that tank. So, first of all, I regularly say: “Ugh can I go pee” and then I got up and walked out the door and walked to the edge of the tank which was about 20 feet away. and I would literally have to put my foot down and climb out of the tank and go pee and then come back and crawl out the door.

She added that DiCaprio, 49, knelt down throughout filming his (spoiler alert) a death scene that has been hotly debated for years.
