When Selena died, she was just 23 and just days away from her four-year wedding anniversary to lead guitarist Chris Perez. Ironically, Yolanda retorted as the president of the singer's fan club. She shot Selena in a hotel room in Corpus Christi, Texas, on March 31, 1995, during a confrontation over embezzled $60,000. The singer planned to fire the president of the fan club. Saldivar has insisted from the beginning that the shooting was accidental and that she wanted to kill herself, not the artist she loved. However, the jury convicted him. She was later sentenced to life imprisonment along with possibility of parole after 30 years.

This parole period will begin in March 2025. Yolanda Saldivar is now 64 years old and is being held by Patrick L. O'Daniel in Gatesville, Texas. A spokesperson for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice confirmed to the NYP that the killer has a unblemished prison record. With that in mind, it is likely that the parole board will agree to hear Yolanda's request. The update is that she reportedly submitted the relevant paperwork to be considered for parole.

The inmates claim that there is a bounty on the killer's head

At least two former inmates reportedly spoke to the NYP about the dangers Yolanda could face in the inmate population.

“Let me spend five minutes with that b***h” is a phrase Yesenia Dominguez told the outlet that she's heard about Yolanda. “Everyone wanted justice for Selena. She has a target on her back,” the ex-prisoner claims. Another inmate, Marisol Lopez, subscribes to this energy. She said that “everyone knows who Yolanda Saldivar is.”

“She has a bounty on her head, like everyone wants a piece of her. The guards keep her away from everyone else because she is so hated. If she was out, someone would try to take her down,” Lopez reportedly shared.

Yolanda Saldivar's cousin told the NYP that there Saldivar “will do no good” in prison. The cousin added that Yolanda felt like a “political prisoner” and said it was “time to get out.”

Meanwhile, according to the NYP, Selena's family will likely receive an official notice of parole next month.
