As the year comes to a close, we must reflect on one of the biggest years in hip-hop in recent memory, led by Kendrick and Drake.

The year 2024 will become a pivotal moment for hip-hop that will be talked about for ages. The big three were active, with Drake, Kendrick and J. Cole all dominating in different ways. Tyler The Creator has stayed in his lane and proven that he evolves at his own pace. In recent years, some have claimed that culture is being watered down, but in 2024, only authentic music matters.

Kendrick Lamar and Drake fight the battle of the century

The year started again after the release of Drake's album For all dogs and led us to believe that it would be another year of domination for the Canadian. However, that was far from the truth after Kendrick Lamar's “Like That” verse denounced the false “big three” narratives. Drake released “Push Ups” then taunted Kendrick into responding. Once Lamar released “Euphoria,” everything was downhill for Drizzy. “Not like us” became the final blow heard around the world. Kendrick's Juneteenth celebration, “The Pop-Out,” was the victory lap watched around the world and his Super Bowl LIX halftime show is shaping up to be the storybook show end to the quarrel.

Drake finishes 20-1 with a 19-1 record

Did Drake get his Canadian ass kicked by Kendrick, yes. However, we can't let that distract us from the fact that he swooped in and grabbed the rest of his peers. From telling Metro Boomin to “shut up and make some drums” to reminding A$AP Rocky that his career is over, he's taken several rappers with him.
