According to Northern News Now, Hible was a resident of Boundary Waters Care Facility. On Monday, January 6, emergency personnel were dispatched to the area at approximately 4:38 p.m. An eyewitness reportedly reported a fire at the location.
Additionally, the report stated that Hible's motorized scooter “caught fire” while she was sitting outside the facility. Hible was reportedly “totally engulfed” before officers could remove him from the scooters.

According to the outlet, Hible suffered severe burns from the incident. Additionally, she was taken to an Ely hospital before being airlifted to a hospital in Duluth, where she died.
Northern News Now adding that the state fire marshal continues to investigate the fatal incident. However, initial reports suggest that “smoking may have caused this accidental fire.”
Finally, the outlet states that outside of Hible, an employee of the Boundary Waters Care Facility was also injured. However, their case was not life-threatening and they were eventually released from the hospital.
