A French woman was conned out of hundreds of thousands of pounds after being tricked into believing she was dating Brad Pitt.
The 53-year-old victim, identified as Anne, was duped into sending €830,000 ($850,000), supposedly to support the actor's cancer treatment.
According to Daily mailAnna, an interior designer, shared with French network TF1 that the scam started when she received a message on social media from someone claiming to be Pitt's mother.
This happened after she posted photos of an extravagant skiing holiday in Tignes on Instagram. The next day he was contacted by another account posing as the “Fight Club” actor himself, claiming that his mother had spoken highly of him.

Anne struggled with personal problems in her marriage to a millionaire, and by February 2023 she had developed a strong bond with the actor.
The cheater sent her heartfelt poems and supportive messages, deepening her emotional attachment.

Anne admitted that she initially suspected the account might be fake, but after daily conversations and receiving AI-generated photos and videos of Pete, her doubts gradually faded.
A seemingly innocent friendship soon turned sour when the suitor proposed marriage and promised Anne lavish gifts.
However, there was a catch – she had to pay customs fees to receive these gifts, which quickly added up to €9,000.
Seeing Anna's desire to send money, the scammer continued to make more and more outrageous demands.
When Anne revealed that she was expecting an ambitious divorce settlement from her husband, the cheater jumped at the chance.

Posing as Pitt, they claimed they urgently needed funds to treat kidney cancer, claiming they could not access their money due to their divorce battle with actress Angelina Jolie.
To make the story more convincing, the scammer sent AI-generated images of Pitt weak and lying in a hospital.
Despite their constant texting and photo sharing, Anne noted that the actor was never available for a phone or video call.

The French woman's daughter tried to warn her about the scam
Anne ended up losing almost one million euros to the elaborate scam. Despite her daughter's repeated warnings, she remained confident about the relationship, insisting: “You'll see when he's here in person, then apologize.”
Her belief began to be doubted only in the summer of 2024, when photos of the real Pete with his girlfriend Ines de Ramon appeared in the media.
Sensing her growing doubts, the scammers quickly sent Anne a fabricated message alert, denying Pitt's relationship with de Ramon, claiming he was secretly involved with a mysterious “very special person.”
The deception escalated when someone posing as an FBI agent contacted Anne offering to bail her out of the scam for €5,000. Desperate for a solution, she sent money.

When Anne fully realized the extent of the fraud, she reported it to the authorities, launching an official investigation.
However, nearly two years later, it is still unclear whether she has recovered any of her lost funds. BFMTV reports that Anne remains in hospital dealing with the devastating effects of the ordeal.
