Acne is so annoying. Whether you're a teenager dealing with inflammatory and cystic acne, a 20-something dealing with hormonal acne, or an adult with acne trying to fade acne scars, no one really wants a pimple. And it's not just a facial problem: acne can also affect your chest, back, and shoulders.

While there are tons of products and tips dedicated to clearing facial acne, we couldn't help but notice the lack of information on how to eliminate acne once and for all. stubborn acne on the chest and back. We consulted Dr. Brendan Camp, Double Board Certified Dermatologist on how to manage acne-prone skin, breakouts, and treatment options to help you get your body acne under control.

Why does body acne appear?

According to Dr. Camp, acne most often occurs in areas of the body with a high concentration of oil glands.

This means that places like your face, chest, and back are common sites where acne forms and causes breakouts. Of course, acne on your face can result from oily skin, dry skin, hormones, inflammation, or not removing your makeup. But why can acne appear on the rest of your skin? And is it different from a pimple on your face?

“Back acne, like facial acne, can be associated with increased oil production, hormonal changes, exercise, and sweat accumulation,” says Dr. Camp.

“Body acne, such as acne on the chest and rashes on the back and shoulders, can also be triggered by friction, tight clothing and the use of anabolic steroids.”
