According to Detroit Free PressBarbie released the doll as part of the brand's music series. According to Mattel Creations websitethe product description confirms it “Aaliyah's smooth vocals and innovative sound helped shape '90s R&B, and her influence on music and fashion is still felt today. Our tribute to the life and sound of Babygirl will elevate any collection to the top of the charts.
Additionally, the doll was priced at $55 and was modeled after the faux leather outfit Aaliyah wore for her “One In A Million” music video.
According to Detroit Free Pressthe doll was only available for purchase by 59 members of the Barbie Club. Additionally, trading was scheduled to begin on Wednesday, January 15th and end at 11:59 PM on January 16th. But the doll is already sold out.
