New year, same Rihanna – well, at least when it comes to applause.

The Fenty founder took to Instagram on Wednesday, January 1, to ring in the new year with her followers, also making a big announcement.
Rihanna posted a video showing herself holding a phone during the New Year's Eve countdown, chanting the numbers with her friends in the room. As soon as the clock struck midnight, everyone in the room shouted, “Happy New Year!” ” which was followed by Rih revealing that she has remained sober for all of 2024.
“Y’all, I haven’t had a drink all year!” » the singer told the camera immediately after the countdown. “I haven’t drunk all year!”
It shouldn't surprise anyone that the comments section is filled with fans joking about how Rihanna hasn't released music in almost a decade. She abandoned her critically acclaimed project Anti in January 2016, so early 2025, that's nine years without a Rihanna album.
“I thought it was the countdown to the album release,” one fan wrote in the comments.
Another referred to his “New Year.” New Me,” caption, commenting, “Does this version remove any music?
However, one comment in particular really caught Rihanna's attention, leading to a classic clapback moment from the queen of small responses. A user named Lorenzo commented on the star's post, writing: “We want an album front.”
This clearly upset Rih, leading her to respond, “Listen, Lorenzo! You're not cute enough to call me by my first name Black, you stupid bastard! »
Crying about the lack of new music from Rihanna is just a fun game until someone like Lorenzo gets a little too comfortable. Regardless of RIH, it's glorious to see that no matter what's going on in the world, we can always count on Rihanna for an instant, classic comeback.
