A joke that caused a reaction
During the Dec. 21 episode, Yost and his “Weekend Update” co-star Michael Che participated in their popular reading joke segment written by the other. Jost hesitated before introducing the bit, saying, “I want to dedicate this next joke to my bouquet, Scarlett Johansson.” As the camera panned to Johansson, watching from backstage, she appeared visibly worried.
Jost continued, cracking jokes about Johansson's recent 40th birthday and their family life. “Hey boo, you all know Scarlett just celebrated her 40th birthday and that means I'm about to get out of there,” he interrupted, laughing as his wife looked confused.

The joke escalated when Yost claimed, “We just had a kid together and you don't see any pictures of him yet because he's black.” A photo of the couple with a black child flashed on the screen, leaving both the audience and Jost in fits of laughter.
The segment also included a quick roast beef joke that referenced Johansson's postpartum experience. Yost admitted, “Costco has taken the roast beef sandwich off their menu, but I'm not tripping over it. I've had roast beef every night since my wife had a baby. … No, no, I'm just playing, baby.

Colin Jost reveals Scarlett's real reaction
Appearing on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” Yost recounted his wife's reaction, saying, “I think I have a problem with a lot of people. Scarlett was truly so shocked.
He added that “SNL” producers warned Johansson about the joke's content, but even that didn't prepare her for the delivery. “They were like, 'Hey, would you be okay with Michael (Che) doing, like, a v-gin joke sometime?'” Yost explained. “She said, 'Sure, you know, whatever, I'm open to it.' However, when a picture of Arby's beef came up on the screen, Johansson was surprised.

Comedy couple
Johansson and Yost, who first went public with their relationship at an American Museum of Natural History gala in 2017, have been married for four years. The couple got engaged in 2019 and tied the knot in an intimate ceremony in October 2020. They welcomed their son Cosmo in 2021. Johansson is also mom to 10-year-old Rose, whom she shares with ex-husband Romain Dauriac.
The two often share their playful dynamic in public. While the couple loves to poke fun at each other, this “SNL” moment pushed the boundaries of their usual humor.

The “Black Widow” actress recently shared details about her marriage, describing her husband as “kind,” “fun” and “loving,” but also revealed the evil side that makes their relationship fascinating.
Speaking on “Live with Kelly and Mark,” Johansson joked about Yost's playful nature. “He has his naughty side too, you know. So it's interesting to him,” she shared. Embracing life at 40
Having recently celebrated her 40th birthday, Johansson reflected on the milestone and the sense of freedom it has given her. “It feels so freeing,” she shared. “Again, you don't care what anyone thinks.”
