Dave Chappelle has been named the first 'SNL' host of 2025

Comedian Dave Chappelle was named the first Saturday Night Live host in 2025.

NBC shared the news on Friday while also announcing the cast Timothée Chalamet will be visiting next week as well as performing as a musical guest. The network also announced a February anniversary special.

Dave Chappelle and “Saturday Night Live” will return to NBC on January 18.

NBC announced that Dave Chappelle will be the first host of “Saturday Night Live” with an announcement on January 10th.

“Live from New York, 'Saturday Night Live' kicks off 2025 with two superstar hosts and musical guests you won't want to miss,” NBC said in a statement. “As the show celebrates its landmark 50th anniversary on NBC, the 50th season has already featured 10 great hosts and has two returning hosts to kick off the second half of this run.”

Dave Chappelle hosts the first episode of 2025 on Saturday Night Live on January 18. The Emmy-winning stand-up comedian and actor, who has hosted post-election episodes in recent years (most recently in November 2022), will return. to Studio 8H on January 18th. This will be his fourth term as manager.”

NBC's statement also named the rapper GloRilla as the musical guest on Chappelle's episode. The first episode of 2025 will be the recording artist's “SNL” debut.

“GloRilla will make him SNL debut as the musical guest on the episode,” the statement read. “The multi-platinum selling rapper is also a Grammy nominee, receiving two nods for her hit single 'Yeah Glo!'

“Dune” star Timothée Chalamet In 2025, he will host “SNL” as a musical guest. The 29-year-old actor currently stars as musician Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown.

“On January 25, 'A Complete Unknownstar' Timotej Chalamet returns for a third time as host of SNL,” the statement said. “The actor portrays singer-songwriter Bob Dylan in the film, though there's no word yet on what Chalamet will be singing — or rapping? — at Studio 8H.”

The statement continued: ” Dune star is also set to make his debut as the episode's musical guest, adding him to an impressive list of “double duty” celebrities who have served as host and musical guest in the same episode.

Other celebrities who have hosted “SNL” while also performing as musical guests include Paul Simon, Lily Tomlin, Ray Charles and Dolly Parton, Sting, Janet Jackson, The Rolling Stones and more.

NBC also noted in a statement that Chappelle was nominated for a Grammy Award for his Netflix special 'Dave Chappelle: The Dreamer'. The 51-year-old is nominated for Best Comedy Album for his comedy special at the 67th Grammy Awards.

“His latest special, 'Dave Chappelle: The Dreamer,' has been nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Comedy Album,” the statement said.

Last year, Chappelle won a Grammy for best comedy album for his special, “Dave Chappelle: What's In A Name?” The comedian also won Best Comedy Album for “Dave Chappelle: The Closer” at the 65th Grammy Awards the previous year.

The 'Dreamer' made headlines after a series of judgmental jokes he made about transgender people during the special. The comedian told one trans joke, telling the story of meeting fellow comedian Jim Carrey on the set of Man in the Moon.

Carrey starred in a biopic of the late comedian Andy Kaufman, and the actor remained in character during the meeting. Chappelle said he was grateful to witness Carrey's creative transformation, but disappointed.

“Looking back, how lucky am I?” Chappell said. “That I got to see one of the greatest artists of his time immersed in one of his most challenging processes ever? It was very fortunate that I saw it, but the way it happened, it was very disappointing.”

He continued: “I wanted to meet Jim Carrey and I had to pretend it was Andy Kaufman. He was clearly Jim Carrey all afternoon. I could look at him and see that he was Jim Carrey. Anyway, I'm saying all that , to say, that's exactly how being transgender makes me feel.”

In Chappelle's 2021 special, The Closer, the comedian claimed he would no longer tell trans jokes, citing the backlash he received from jokes he told in another special, Dave Chappelle: Sticks and Stones.

“I don't talk to those people anymore. It wasn't worth it. I don't talk about them. Maybe three or four times tonight, but that's it,” he joked. — I'm tired of talking about them.

“To be honest with you, I've been trying to mend my relationship with the trans community because I don't want them to think I don't like them,” he continued. “You know how I've fixed it? I wrote a play. I did. Because I know gays love plays,” he joked. “It's a very sad play, but it's touching. It's about a black trans woman whose pronoun, unfortunately, is n—-a. It's a tearjerker. At the end of the play, she dies of loneliness because white liberals don't know what to do with her talk. It's sad.”
