Does Tate Dutton die in Yellowstone?

Spoilers for “Yellowstone” to follow.

“1883” predicted the end of “Yellowstone”. when tribal leader Spotted Eagle (Graham Greene) told James Dutton (Tim McGraw) that his family's land would return to the Indians after seven generations. “Yellowstone” eventually reveals that Tate Dutton (Bracken Merrill) is the family's seventh-generation son, and the prophecy eventually comes true.

Although the aforementioned “1883” scene suggests that Tate will be at the center of a violent land dispute, the deal turns out to be peaceful. “Yellowstone” Season 5 ends with Tate alive and well, though the same cannot be said for the other characters.

Meanwhile, the son of Monica (Kesley Asbill) and Casey Dutton (Luke Grimm) had some close calls with death as a child as he faced Mother Nature, hired assassins and other nefarious threats. So with that in mind, let's take a look at the times Tate faced death in the face and somehow came out unscathed.

Tate's childhood is not easy throughout Yellowstone, and his misfortunes begin early. In the Season 1 episode “No Good Horses”, Case leaves him in a sewer so he can chase down some criminals. However, the tube turns out not to be a safe place for young Tate, as he comes face-to-face with a rattlesnake and must be stoned to death. Tate shows no fear and easily defeats the reptile, but the scene emphasizes that danger can befall children in this series.

While an encounter with rattlesnakes is always life-threatening, Tate's death was more direct in the Season 1 episode “The Long Black Train.” The moment takes place on a relaxing fishing trip with his grandfather, John Dutton (Kevin Costner), but culminates in Tate falling into a river and nearly drowning. Fortunately, John acts quickly and saves the child before he gets down. It's a close call, though.

“Yellowstone” season 2's most intense storyline centers on Tate. The Dutton family is embroiled in a blood feud with the Beck brothers, who want the family land and are willing to get their hands dirty to achieve their goals. This leads to them kidnapping Tate and leaving her with a neo-Nazi militia, which is as unpleasant as it sounds. Tate is eventually rescued, but then has PTSD for a while, though he returns after spending some time with his grandfather.

Tate also comes close to death in the Season 3 finale of “Yellowstone,” when gunmen invade his family's ranch and a shootout ensues. Monica Dutton and the ranchers eventually manage to fend off their enemies and protect Tate and their land, but the violent atrocities linger in the child's mind for a while, and it takes a minute for him to recover from the horror of it all. .

“Jamie Dutton (Wes Bentley) is killed in Yellowstone's finale. and the family ranch is turned over to Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham) and the Broken Rock Preserve. However, Tate has one of the happiest endings, as his family remains unscathed from all the violence that once threatened them, and the episode ends with them making a good, honest living selling cows.

Tate's story ends with her at a cattle auction with her old husband, then horseback riding with her mother on their farm, watching their young cows being unloaded. This suggests that he will follow in his father's footsteps and become a rancher, as it is clear in the finale that he and Casey will have to work hard to maintain their farm.

Whatever the future holds for Tate, the “Yellowstone” Season 5 finale suggests that she might be okay. He too deserves a peaceful life considering he grew up in a hostile environment and was kidnapped by some nasty characters.
