Drake withdraws legal request against UMG and Spotify

Drake overcomes some of his 6 grievances against God.

In a shocking move, Complain Papi has requested the withdrawal of his legal petition in New York against his label Universal Music Group and Spotify after accusing them of bot-boosting Kendrick Lamar's “Not Like Us.”

Variety reports that on Tuesday, Drizzy filed an intent to retire in New York State under his company Frozen Moments LLC. The outlet reports that Frozen Moments LLC is withdrawing the petition at “no financial cost to any party involved” with no objection from Spotify. However, UMG “reserved its position on the subject”. The terms of the agreement remain secret.

Despite the fierce nature of the initial complaints and rumors of a “fight for all artists,” this situation was resolved relatively quickly.

As previously reported, the legal filing alleged that Spotify used an illegal “pay-to-play” scheme to promote “Not Like Us” on the airwaves. Additionally, he alleged that UMG paid for these actions and deployed bots to help the case succeed, thereby contributing to its defeat.

It should be noted, however, that Drake's petition in Texas against UMG and iHeartRadio, knowingly publishing a song that defamed him, remains active. The petition filed in Texas is scheduled to be discussed on January 28, but it would not be surprising if that case is dismissed as well.

If the accusations were found to be accurate, they would violate the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act, and you don't need any legal knowledge to understand how that completely changes the perspective of the petition.

All eyes are on January 28, when we'll see how Drake proceeds with the Texas petition.
