Gabriel Basso favor your tricks whenever possible.
“I think it can be misconstrued in the world, like I'm doing it because I want to say I can do it, and that's not really what it's about.” Night agent the 30-year-old star said during an appearance on Tuesday, January 14 The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. “For me, it's about immersing the audience.”
Basso stars in the Netflix series as FBI agent Peter Sutherland, who works at the White House as a Night Action phone operator. He told Fallon, 50, as viewers watch Night agenthe wants them to feel that his performance is believable.
“I don't want the audience watching the show and I'm about to get punched or hipped or thrown on my back. I think it's a lie,” said the actor. “I like to play, I don't like to lie.”
Basso believes there is a “difference” when it comes to performing stunts “for audience immersion” and “for credibility.”
“They like Peter (and) I think it's important to watch him get shots,” he explained. “And if that requires me to be thrown into a wall, fine. It's not the end of the world.”
One trick Basso addressed skydiving, something he already does in his personal life.
“(Netflix) pitched it as an idea, and then I was like, ‘Oh, I'm already skydiving. I will,” Basso said. “But then insurance called and said, 'Yeah, stop it.'
Fallon then showed a photo of Basso skydiving.
“I went to Skydive San Diego,” Basso explained in a photo of himself taking off. “I got my Class A recertification”
The late-night host then realized he was holding Basso's photo upside down. Basso quipped that the photo of him in the sky “looked cooler from the other side” because his back was seemingly turned to the ground.
“I love it. It's hard to do,” Fallon teased before recreating the pose in his chair. “You really have to arch your back.”
Last month, Basso made an epic leap from the Netflix Lightning during a Christmas Day football game between the Baltimore Ravens and the Houston Texans. Basso parachuted into Houston. After completing the stunt, he revealed that the season 2 trailer Night agent fell down
“It was cool to see Houston at a glance. A memory for sure!” Basso said Netflix's Tudum in December 2024.
