Heidi Montag on what she took and left behind in the LA fires

Reality TV star Heidi Monday opened up to Us Weekly in an exclusive interview about what she took and what she doesn't want to leave behind when evacuating the LA wildfires.

“I didn't know what to do,” Mountains ram told We on Wednesday, Jan. 15, referring to the moment she realized she and her family had to flee the out-of-control fire burning in Pacific Palisades. “Nothing could have prepared me for that… You just can't wrap your head around it. I started out just packing things that made sense—I didn't really think about anything else.

Heidi, 38, and her husband, Spencer Prattlost his home in a fire, according to the original Instagram post shared by Spencer's sister, Stephanie Pratton January 7. Heidi and Spencer (41) have children Gunnar (7) and Ryker (2) together.

Heidi revealed that in the panic, her priority in organizing her life was “baby stuff”.

“So I got their teddy bears. I happened to have Gunner's teeth from the tooth fairy that he left in my locker, so I grabbed that,” she explained. “I grabbed some of the documents we had — the ones that were wrapped (in years ago from the (previous) fires I grabbed two pairs of jeans and two shirts I grabbed a pair of shoes at random.

In the couple's haste, they were forced to leave behind many beloved items—items that have now been destroyed. Spencer explains that one item was a special Christmas present he had convinced his wife to buy for herself.

“She got nothing,” he said We. “Then right before Christmas, she got these Golden Goose shoes in Palisade Village. That was her great gift. I was like, “Just take your Golden Goose.” She didn't.

Heidi explained that she thought she would be able to “get back at them.”

“It hit me at the end of packing that I might not come back,” she added. “I thought, 'Oh my god, I have to go to the kids' room and grab their bears.' And I had Gunner, he had a fever of 104 — he had it for days — and I was so consumed with him … (I was) just packing and worrying and wandering around aimlessly.
In addition to her new shoes, Heidi said she wishes she had grabbed the “photos,” which she explained she won't be able to get back.

“I don't have any photos,” she said. “I have all these photo albums that I made on rSpencer before there was Instagram and TikTok and the iPhone. I will never have this photo(s) again. All that sentimental stuff is gone, you know?

So far, the Palisades, Eaton and other smaller fires have burned a combined 38,600 acres. NBC News. At least 27 people have died and 12,000 structures have been destroyed. Several celebrities including Mandy Moore, Milo Ventimiglia, Paris Hilton and Miles Tellerlost their homes in a fire.

For Heidi and Spencer, it's not the “things” they miss so much as their community.

“I miss our friends. I miss our everyday life. I miss having to drop my son off at school. I miss our whole world and I'm so sad for all our friends,” she tells us through tears. “I'm so sad for our entire society. It's not just our loss—it's literally our city's loss; a community that we are all such an active part of.

She continued: “(It's) just the daily routine (that) you miss — waking up in your bed with your mirrors and your pillows and the smells of your house and your kids. It's so hard.”
