Heidi Monday is doing her best to 'focus on gratitude' after a fire destroyed her family home in Los Angeles.
Montague and husband Spencer Pratt lost his property On Tuesday, January 7, flames spread throughout the Pacific Palisades. The couple and their sons, 6-year-old Gunner and 13-month-old Ryker, were safely evacuated earlier that day.
“The craziest thing when you're packing for a fire is that your brain just goes haywire,” Montag, 38, shared with Instagram stories Wednesday, January 8. “You're like, 'What do I need? What don't I need?' It is so awesome to pack the house. I think I only have two pairs of jeans, two shirts. I have many more clothes for children.
Still, she asked herself, “Why didn't I take more?”
As her eyes filled with tears, Montag said, “The main thing is that we're safe. Get out.” But right now, “you really just panic and then part of you (thinks), 'I'll be back.' You know, 'Sure, I'll be back after all (our stuff).' So I pray for everyone else going through this and for all my friends and loved ones. Thank God we have health and children – and I know it. Just trying to focus on gratitude. It just comes in waves. “
Earlier Wednesday, Pratt, 41, was delivered poignant news In the Instagram grid.
“One positive sign I saw our house burned down was our son's bed burned into a heart shape,” he wrote, posting ring cam footage from the nursery.
He continued: “A sign of how much love was in this house, so grateful for all the years and memories spent with our family.”
Spencer's sister, Stephanie Prattwas the first to confirm the news.
“I don't know if it's a good thing I'm in London or if I have to go back to LA because I can't think straight. What should I do? Honestly looking for advice. I'm in shock,” Stephanie, 38, wrote via Instagram late Tuesday. “How awful for my lovely little nephews to watch their house disappear like this. They must be so scared and confused.
In her Instagram story, Stephanie noted that she is “heartbroken beyond measure” for her brother and their family.
“Just spoke to my dad – he was trying to save my brother's house but the wind was so strong. He couldn't do anything,” Stephanie added. “Even the fire station in Palisades has burned down. Pacific Palisades is completely on fire. There is no one there.”
Stephanie also noted that the siblings' parents had also “evacuated to safety” before watching their own house burn down via security camera footage.
“My parent's house is gone,” Spencer wrote on Instagram Stories on Wednesday, sharing a photo of the ruins and adding seven crying emojis.
