Jennifer Aydin talks about the viral social media incident involving Jersey Mike's, giving his side of the story and reflecting on how the situation escalated.
The Real Housewives of New Jersey The star opened up about the now infamous encounter, revealing that she never planned for things to turn out the way they did.
“Hindsight is 20/20, but I don't think it's going to happen that way,” Jennifer 47, exclusively narrated Us Weekly on January 8. “Not at all.”
Incident at Jersey Mike's
The drama started when Jennifer posted a video on social media earlier this month claiming she waited “for what felt like forever” to be served at Jersey Mike's Airport. In response, one of the employees shared a TikTok video call Jennifer “stupid bitch” and accused her of holding the whole line. While Jennifer shocked by the reaction, she claimed she was “not rude” to any of the staff.
“We're a big group. I'm a family of seven,” Jennifer explained. “I have a sister with my goddaughter. She is a widow (and) she and my goddaughter come with us wherever we go. So, we travel (with) nine people or many people. We met my cousin, another family of six. … We are 15 people, not to mention the other two families who met us at the airport.
Navigating Airport Chaos
Jennifer and her husband Bill Eidin51, was traveling with her five children during the holiday season when they stopped at Jersey Mike's. After TSA security screening, Jennifer and her cousin Susie decided to grab some food before the flight. Jennifer told how they arrived at the sandwich chain when it opened and stood in line around 5:45 a.m. Jennifer explained.
Things started to get tense when Jennifer cousin Susie stepped out of line to look at another stall. “She didn't get back on the line with me because it was starting to build up,” Jennifer shared. “So she decided to wait for me in front of the register until it was my turn.” When it was Jennifer turn around, she still let Susie go ahead of her Jennifer believes others may have thought she was letting Susie “cut” the line. “I didn't let her cut,” Jennifer clarified. “I only ordered one sandwich. I only had one that my kids wanted to split. That was my task. I'm in mom mode and just trying to get my kids to eat.
Disappointment occurs when an order is delayed
When Susie ordered, Jennifer followed with her order, only to find the woman behind her receiving first aid. “We've already been waiting. We're at the airport, we have to catch our flight. Jennifer said. “We've already gone through TSA, I'm a big group, everything took (time), so obviously the tension is high.” She reminded the clerk that she ordered first, but the clerk replied, “You have to wait your turn.” Jennifer added: “I didn't want to do anything about it.”
The situation escalated even more when Jennifer husband came to add another sandwich to the order.
“They are working on my one sandwich that I ordered,” Jennifer said. “It's a foot-long Italian, and Bill said one of our kids wanted a simple tuna mini with nothing on it.” Jennifer requested an extra sandwich, but the employee told her to “go to the back of the line,” which further upset her. “She looks up, and I think she realized I was right, and she says, 'Well, then you have to tell the guy behind you that it's okay.'
The man behind her in line
At this point Jennifer hadn't noticed the man behind her, who reportedly commented that it was “funny”. Jennifer she added another sandwich to her order. “Tensions are high. I know I will be blamed for something and I will keep calm. Jennifer said. “The whole point of the recording — I know it backfired — was to show that I wasn't in a hurry. I'm just typing a window. At that point, the guy isn't even in my property.
The man then allegedly claimed to be a law professor and threatened to sue Jennifer for “all (her) fake diamonds” if she posted the video. Jennifer expressed shock and disbelief at his reaction, saying: “I'm literally so shocked and disgusted by this man's behavior,” adding that he was “caused by bad behavior.”
A moment of regret
Jennifer admitted that in the heat of the moment she couldn't handle the situation. “I realize I'm not handling it right, but right now I was so shocked and appalled by this really unwarranted, aggressive behavior. So I put the camera on him,” she said. “In my anger, I told him because I wanted him to know that you just can't be rude to people like that. You don't know who you're rude to, and I'm going to beat you up.
Despite what happened Jennifer reiterated that she tried to be polite to Jersey Mike's employees and at no point was she rude to them. “I wasn't rude to the Jersey Mike's staff at all,” she explained. “I was trying to be polite.”
Customer service and apologies
The situation took a turn when one of the employees allegedly threatened not to finish Jennifer an order of sandwiches. “In the video, they were still working on my sandwich. It's not like I paid. I'm not signed out,” Jennifer explained. “So for them to make me wait until the end of the line or for me to have to ask this guy's permission – that just caused an argument. They shouldn't have done that and that's just customer service.
Reflecting on her actions, Jennifer admitted that posting the video was a mistake. “I realized I should have done it differently and it could have gone a little differently,” she said. “And now I'm learning not to do things in the heat of the moment because I wasn't raging like a celebrity. … I was a paying customer who didn't get a sandwich for her child.
Jennifer also apologized for some of her remarks, including calling an employee an “80-year-old woman,” but clarified that she would not be contacting Jersey Mike's or the man behind her to apologize. “I'm not going to,” she said. “They keep blasting me. … I apologize for calling (the employee) an 80-year-old woman and doing all that, but that's the end of it. They're monetizing it, which I'm very happy about. They're finally going to get something good out of it.
Learning from experience
As the situation continues to unfold, Jennifer appears to take responsibility for his actions while acknowledging the challenges of being in the public eye. “I have to understand that I'm a public figure and that anything I say or do will be scrutinized and I actually have to lead by example,” she concluded.
