Jennifer Garner became emotional as she discovered she had lost a friend from church Los Angeles fires.
The 52-year-old actress choked like she told MSNBC on Friday, January 10, when one of her friends died forest fires devastating parts of Los Angeles, including the Pacific Palisades area, Malibu, Santa Monica, and the Hollywood Hills.
“I lost a friend, and it's very tender for our church, so I don't think we should talk about it yet,” Garner said. “I lost a friend. She didn't get out in time.
The Family switch the actress added that she sympathized with those who had lost their homes in the devastating fires.
“My heart bleeds for my friends,” Garner said. “I think I'm thinking about 100 families and 5,000 homes have been lost. I can (without even thinking) write a list of 100 friends who have lost their homes.
She added: “I almost feel guilty walking around my house. You know what I can do? How can I help? What can I offer? What can I offer with these arms, walls, and security that I have?”
Garner has rolled up her sleeves to help during the wildfire by volunteering at one of the Chef Jose AndreWorld Central Kitchen Pop Ups in the Los Angeles area. They are set up to help feed evacuees who have been forced from their homes by the fires.
“I've lived in and around the Palisades for 25 years, so I just think we all want to be involved in some way, to be of service in some way,” Garner said. “And because of my work with Save the Children, we have a relationship with the chef, and I was able to just say, 'Can I be with you all day?' What can I do to help? Make me work.''
A series of wind-driven wildfires broke out in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood of Los Angeles on Tuesday, January 7, quickly causing massive damage. Many residents have left the city limits under mandatory or voluntary evacuation orders, and thousands are estimated to have lost their homes.
The wildfires have also affected many celebrities, including Mandy Moore, paris hilton, Spencer Pratt and Milo Ventimiglia, who all lost their homes due to the blaze.
In recent days, Hollywood has also canceled several events, including premieres The last showgirl, Wolf man and Jennifer Lopez Unstoppable as well as The Critics Choice Awards, among others.
