“Happy New Year!” he began in the post's lengthy caption. “As the calendar turns, I consider myself a year filled with love, loss and growth. This past year has been one of the most transformative of my life. I've experienced moments of overwhelming gratitude, deep sadness, and the kind of clarity that only comes when you truly allow life to happen as it's meant to.
A photo of Stamos with his wife was attached to the caption Caitlin McHugh38, whom he married in 2018and their son Billy, 6.
Both Caitlins and Billy were the first to be name-checked in the reflective Instagram post.
“To Kaitlyn and Billy, you are my heart. Every morning we've spent cuddling and laughing together is a memory I'll hold close for the rest of my life,” Stamos wrote. “You remind me every day that the simplest moments are often the most meaningful.”
Stamos also referenced his Full house costar, Dave Coulier, and his ongoing cancer battletagging him in the caption and in the photo itself.
“@dcoulier you got it!” Stamos, who played Uncle Jesse alongside Coulier's Uncle Joey in the hit 90s sitcom, wrote.
Coulier, 65, was diagnosed with stage 3 non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in October. According to the Mayo Clinic, non-Hodgkin lymphoma is a type of cancer that attacks the body's lymphatic system and affects “white blood cells called lymphocytes (which) grow abnormally and can form growths (tumors) throughout the body.”
The actor also touched on the loss of a childhood friend Mike Owenswho has been best friends with Stamos since they were 11 years old. Owen died in November of a heart attack.
“To Mike, my oldest and dearest friend we lost this year, you will forever be my silent Obi-Wan, guiding me with your quiet strength. Losing you has left a hole in my life, but I carry your light forward in everything I do,” Stamos wrote.
Stamos went on to mention his accomplishments in the field of sobriety in 2024 and expressed that he is looking forward to the future.
“I celebrated my sobriety again this year, and I'm very proud of that. This year marked a new beginning for me and I am so grateful for the second chances that life offers when you choose to give them,” he wrote. “I'm excited about what's ahead—new projects, new stories to tell, and new ways to create and communicate. But for now, I hold on to the silence, the laughter, and the love of those moments with my family.
He concluded: “To everyone reading this: May the new year bring you kindness, courage and peace, knowing that you are exactly where you are meant to be.”
