Johnny Depp's daughter Lily Rose says she was 'traumatised' by one of his films

The actress talked about the experience in her cover story Harper's Bazaar discussing her relationship with the award-winning Hollywood star.

Lily-Rose Depp is currently in a relationship with rapper and singer Daniel Balbuena, whom she has been dating for the past two years.

Being the daughter of one of Hollywood's greatest actors, it's no surprise that Lily-Rose often had the opportunity to watch many of her father's films and learn from the experience to shape her career.

Among them, Lily Rose recently revealed that one had a big influence on her, specifically referring to her father's character in the gothic romantic fantasy film Edward Scissorhands.

“Movies are supposed to make you feel something. It traumatized me,” the actress said of the film, in which Depp starred as a young man with scissor blades for hands. Harper's Bazaar.

Lily-Rose was only three years old when she watched the film, so it wouldn't have been surprising if her trauma was caused by her fear of the character. However, she found this not to be the case; instead, it was the way the character was treated as a “mutant” that bothered him.

She added: “Not because I thought he was scary, but because everyone was so mean to him and I got really upset. It's a difficult childhood memory.”

Lily-Rose also opened up about the silent horror film Nosferatu, in which she has sex with a monster in the first scene.

The Idol star shared that while she found the film “scary, gross and repulsive,” she also found it “surprisingly beautiful” and loves exploring such films that tap into her gothic instincts.

“I'm interested in the darker side of things,” she said. “As an actor, you hope your role will be as meaty as possible, so you have as much as possible to dive into.”

Lily-Rose also shared that she finds it exciting that she can explore herself in these films to a depth that the actress never knew she could.

She added: “The most exciting thing is to explore parts of yourself. You can hide behind all this beautiful artwork, costumes, story, but the place I draw from is very personal.”

Although Lily-Rose's 2023 TV series The Idol was met with heavy criticism, her father Depp reportedly had no problem with his daughter's role on the hit show.

A source said Daily mail that the actor is happy that the 24-year-old is “building her career and challenging herself to take on roles that interest her and test her.”

The insider said: “He likes that she's her own person and becoming her own actress. She doesn't rely on his success. He likes that she's such a strong person, especially now that she's in the extra spotlight. Her recent role in the movie The Idol.”

As for the criticism Lily-Rose has received since the series debuted at Cannes, Depp sees it as a sign that his daughter “must be doing something right.”

“He's proud of her and doesn't lend himself to the extra chatter and drama that comes with the role,” the insider continued.

As for her love life, Lily-Rose is still in love with rapper and singer Daniel Balbuen, known by the stage name 070 Shake.

“She's just the most amazing person I've ever met,” Depp said of the “Winter Baby/New Jersey Blues” singer. “Honestly, the kindest person.”

She went on to talk about how her partner, whom she calls “my boyfriend” because that's how she feels, makes her happy.

Lily-Rose shared: “I'm very much in love and very happy. I've always been very private about my personal life, but it's hard not to talk about him because I'm so happy.”

The actress revealed that she knew it was the real deal simply based on her gut instincts, nothing complicated.

“It's only when you know, you know,” she told the outlet. “You fall in love with what you fall in love with. It never seemed more complicated than this.”

The couple have been dating since February 2023, the same month they were first spotted together at Paris Fashion Week.

In May of the same year, the actress made their relationship official by posting a picture of them sharing a tender kiss on her Instagram story. She captioned it, “4 months with my crush,” according to this Daily mail.

Later that month, they were seen sharing a passionate kiss at the Los Angeles airport after Depp Lily-Rose returned from the Cannes Film Festival, where she won a standing ovation for her performance in Idol.

They celebrated their one-year anniversary in January 2024, and Lily-Rose shared a now-deleted post of herself hugging the singer, along with the caption “1 <3 my Dani, mine forever".

Most recently, Lily-Rose attended the Los Angeles premiere of 070 Shake's new album, cheering on her lover while documenting the event.
