Jonathan Bennett is set to return as the host of this year's Times Square New Year's Eve celebration, which will be available to stream live online.

The event promises an exciting line-up of musical performances including Carrie Underwood, Jonah's brothersTLC, Rita Oraand more. Additionally, Mickey Guyton will provide a special rendition of John Lennon's “Imagine” just before the iconic midnight ball drops.

In an interview with People magazinethe actor revealed his favorite aspect of New Year's Eve in New York – a surprising tidbit about the iconic confetti.

“Every New Year's Eve, when all the revelers are showered with this confetti, it's actually people's wishes,” Bennett revealed. “You stand there and you're overwhelmed by so many people's wishes for the New Year. There's something very special about that, and that's what I love about New Year's Eve in Times Square.”

The Hallmark actor then shared that “a new year is a symbol of a new beginning” and confetti “is a symbol, a literal physical symbol of everyone's wishes for the new year.”

“I think we always have hope, we have better days, better life, people have so many wishes for the new year,” he said. “So to have them just showered on you is so special.”

Bennett also explained that the Times Square Alliance and Countdown Entertainment, the organizations behind the iconic ball drop, are playing a key role in ensuring that every wish finds its place on a piece of confetti. These wishes are collected either from the “Wishing Wall” in Times Square or by submissions on the official event website.

“They are so adamant about using genuine wishes and making sure that every wish that goes into that box is granted,” the actor added.

Strauss, Bennett shared an occasion “where one of the wishes almost came true.” He recalled saying, “I thought, 'Oh, we almost lost it,' and Jeff immediately said, 'Put it back in the box.' Bennett continued, “I looked at him and he says, 'That's somebody's wish.'

The actor added how important it is to people, “so if you write your wish down, it will come true. I think that's what makes Times Square and New Year's Eve so special.”
