Jonathan Bennett reveals a fun fact about New Year's confetti

Jonathan Bennett is set to return as the host of this year's Times Square New Year's Eve celebration, which will be available to stream live online.

The event promises an exciting line-up of musical performances including Carrie Underwood, Jonah's brothersTLC, Rita Oraand more. Additionally, Mickey Guyton will provide a special rendition of John Lennon's “Imagine” just before the iconic midnight ball drops.

On his official Snapchat account, Jonathan Bennett will be showing fans behind-the-scenes footage that can't be seen live.

In an interview with People magazinethe actor revealed his favorite aspect of New Year's Eve in New York – a surprising tidbit about the iconic confetti.

“Every New Year's Eve, when all the revelers are showered with this confetti, it's actually people's wishes,” Bennett revealed. “You stand there and you're overwhelmed by so many people's wishes for the New Year. There's something very special about that, and that's what I love about New Year's Eve in Times Square.”

The Hallmark actor then shared that “a new year is a symbol of a new beginning” and confetti “is a symbol, a literal physical symbol of everyone's wishes for the new year.”

“I think we always have hope, we have better days, better life, people have so many wishes for the new year,” he said. “So to have them just showered on you is so special.”

Bennett also explained that the Times Square Alliance and Countdown Entertainment, the organizations behind the iconic ball drop, are playing a key role in ensuring that every wish finds its place on a piece of confetti. These wishes are collected either from the “Wishing Wall” in Times Square or by submissions on the official event website.

“They are so adamant about using genuine wishes and making sure that every wish that goes into that box is granted,” the actor added.

Reflecting on an unforgettable moment with Countdown Entertainment President Jeffrey A. Strauss, Bennett shared an occasion “where one of the wishes almost came true.” He recalled saying, “I thought, 'Oh, we almost lost it,' and Jeff immediately said, 'Put it back in the box.' Bennett continued, “I looked at him and he says, 'That's somebody's wish.'

The actor added how important it is to people, “so if you write your wish down, it will come true. I think that's what makes Times Square and New Year's Eve so special.”

A star-studded line-up of performers will take to the stage in New York's Times Square tonight as thousands of revelers gather to ring in 2025 and witness the iconic ball drop.

The evening will feature a diverse mix of talent, including New York dance group AGNEW, country superstar Carrie Underwood, reggaeton artist De La Ghetto, Colombian singer Gracie, global sensation Jonas Brothers, rapper Capo, singer-songwriter Mark Ambor, country artist Megan. Moroney, pop star Sophia Ellis-Beckstore and brass ensemble Triad Brass.

Plus, Mickey Guyton will give a special performance just before midnight. Fans can also expect members of '90s R&B legends TLC to perform some of their biggest hits, including songs from their groundbreaking 1994 album CrazySexyCool, at Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve.

With such an impressive lineup, the night promises to be an unforgettable celebration.

Some of country music's biggest names ring in the new year with performances on CBS New Year's Eve Live: Nashville's Big Bash. The program will be shown from 10:00 PM to 10:00 PM EST/PST and will resume from 10:30 PM to 1:30 AM EST/PST. The show will also be available to stream on Paramount+.

The star-studded lineup includes powerhouse acts such as Chris Stapleton, Eric Church, Jelly Roll, Kane Brown, Caitlin Brown, Luke Combs, Miranda Lambert, Parker McCollum, Post Malone and Shaboozy.
