Kate Middleton's return to royal walking events has fans in awe

Kate stepped into the spotlight for the first time since her cancer diagnosis to walk with her husband William and their children Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6, on their annual Christmas Day walk to St. Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham.

The walk, which has become one of Kate's favorite royal traditions, also marked her return to royal duties as it was her first official public engagement.

It was a joyous moment for the princess as she personally interacted with her well-wishers, receiving hugs, handshakes and warm Christmas wishes.

At one point, Kate was the only member of the royal family left on the walk. William and the children waited for her to finish interacting with the public before they could return to Sandringham for Christmas lunch.

One of the well-wishers who came to wish Kate a Merry Christmas was Louis Beauchamp, an English teacher from Paris.

Talking to People magazineBeauchamp shared that he first met the Princess of Wales in 2023 when she and William visited the pub for a walk.

“I had an unforgettable interaction with Katrina,” he said. “She told me she was trying to get the kids to speak more French and encouraged me to keep up the hard work with my students.”

He continued: “Unfortunately, when she announced she was suffering from cancer, I knew we wouldn't be seeing her in public for a very long time.”

“Sandringham was the best option for me. That's why I booked the trip and went there to show that I'm still there to support him and always will,” he added.

Beauchamp, who shared that Kate's early work has inspired him, praised her for the “positive influence” she has had on his “life over the years” as he presented her with a scarf he had made for her in Morocco.

Another well-wisher who came to support Kate was Karen McLean, 73, a cancer fighter of more than 20 years.

Talking to Sky Newsshe reflected on her conversation with Kate, noting, “We just talked a little bit about cancer.”

She also said Kate gave her a hug, which she described as a “privilege”, after she found out McLean had traveled from North Lincolnshire to meet her.

McLean sent a heartfelt message to both Kate and King Charles as they said the two senior royals seemed “actually doing really well for what they're going through”.

Body language expert Judy James revealed that William put a bright smile on Kate's face during the walk.

As she walked past throngs of well-wishers holding flowers, Kate reportedly showed a fleeting “unsmiling expression”, hinting at possible “fatigue or a worried moment” when she and William were briefly separated.

However, in an affectionate exchange, William's look at his wife seemed like instant comfort.

The shared gaze changed her demeanor, leading to what was described as a “flaming smile.”

James told Daily mail“She looked over and at William and they exchanged a look that came with a 'flaming smile', meaning her expression responded to his grin with an immediate and wide smile of her own.”

James added that the brief but meaningful interaction symbolized the strong bond between the royal couple and was “probably the biggest body language sign of the current relationship”.

She added: “His strongest moment of support here was from a distance, but it was still a strong sign of the bond between them, and with that return smile, Kate went out to greet the fans, looking genuinely happy and touched.”
