In October 2014, Kesha filed a lawsuit against Dr. Luke, accusing him of sexual assault and battery, sexual harassment, emotional abuse and violating California business practices laws. She alleged that Dr. Luke drugged and raped her and emotionally manipulated her during their professional relationship, which began when she was signed to his label, Kemosabe Records, at the age of 18.

Dr. Luke denied the allegations and filed a counterclaim against Kesha for defamation and breach of contract, claiming she fabricated the allegations to get out of her recording contract.
