Kylie Jenner is accused of having a tone-deaf response – or worse – to the recent disaster.
Some members of his family have already faced criticism following the horrific Los Angeles wildfires.
But the problem with Kylie isn't about political blame games or huge wastes of water.
Instead, fans and critics are wondering if now is the time best Is it time to publish an advertisement about the fires?
What did Kylie Jenner do wrong?
In 2024, Kylie Jenner launched yet another product. This time, the makeup mogul has unveiled a vodka soda under the name Sprinter.
Well, Sprinter shared a promo earlier in January 2025… just days before devastating wildfires broke out. Thousands and thousands of people have fled their homes. Thousands of structures were destroyed. People died, and some people, businesses and families will never recover.
Meanwhile, Kylie's promo for Sprinter remains in effect. That would be nice – life goes on, after all. Except for the content of the ad.
The caption for Kylie Jenner's vodka soda ad says “Warming up for the weekend.”
Meanwhile, the image itself includes placement of the actual product next to a blazing wood stove.
This is a completely normal advertisement for winter. But after so many images and videos of the devastating inferno that reduced historic Los Angeles neighborhoods to ashes, things aren't looking good. You can, after all, always just remove an ad that has bad timing.
Here's how people are reacting to Kylie Jenner's unfortunate timing
First, a Instagram account that appears to be dedicated to disliking Kylie and Timothee Chalamet as one couple posted a screenshot of the announcement to their story.
“Oh my fucking God,” the caption on the photo said. “And the “Bad Taste & Timing” award goes to….
Then a screenshot of this Story post was sent to Redditwhere even more people commented on the timing of it all.
“I mean, girl, take that off. You look deaf at best,” one Reddit resident commented.
One critic hoped in vain that this would somehow mean the end of the entire family's influence, writing: “I hope it's over for them!!! May this Californian tragedy mark the end of the Karjenners.
Another accused Kylie of “trying to be bold and cool and just being tone deaf and dumb.” (Just a reminder that the ad was published before the fire)
Not everyone feels outraged
A vodka soda ad is probably the least horrible thing on people's minds right now. Especially since the offense was not intentional.
As some commentators have pointed out, fire exists. Movies, TV shows, books, video games, and commercials all contain fire in one form or another. It's not necessarily insensitive.
Obviously, anyone who has seen their house burn has every right to feel sensitive to combustion in its many forms. But the anger at Kylie for this very specific thing is a little hard to justify. Most of it probably comes from people who don't like Kylie to begin with.
