LeBron James is one of the Swoosh's most elite alumni, but recently revealed that Reebok offered $10 million before entering the NBA.
One of the most famous iconic sneakers of all time comes from LeBron James and Nike, but what if fate had it otherwise? LeBron rarely goes on anyone's podcast and when he does, we get some incredible stories about life as a kid from Akron.
Thanks to the Kelce brothers, LeBron launched other epic stores into the market. Jason and Travis Kelce podcast. This time, he detailed an encounter with Reebok during his senior year of high school alongside a young Maverick Carter.
“I am sitting across the table; I am a senior in high school….I am returning to St. Vincent-St. Mary the next day, my senior year, and the guy slips me a check at the end of the table,” James said. “It was me, my mom and Maverick Carter at the end of the table, and he said, 'If you're not going to talk to other companies, this one's yours,' and I'm looking at that… 10 million f* *royal dollars.
Unfortunately, Reebok never got the king's signature and following his instincts led him to go bigger and better with Nike.
“I was in high school and they gave me a check for $10 million if I promised not to go to anyone else. I told them I needed a break. They came out… And my mother looked at me and she said, “Son, trust your instincts. If they offer you that, then who knows what other companies can offer you.
Ultimately, the wisdom of his mother Gloria James and following his heart led him to Nike where he now has a lifetime contract. LeBron and Nike have had a relationship for over 20 years and it's hard to imagine him wearing anything other than a swoosh. Walks through the King James Tunnel spawned some of Nike's biggest collaborations and helped it out of some of its sickest crises.
However, it does make us wonder what the sneaker world would have changed if Bron had gone to Reebok.
