Former Yankee closer Mariano Rivera and his wife Claradenies The accusation that they covered Child sexual abuse that allegedly occurred at their Rye, New York home and at a summer camp associated with their church.
The lawsuit, filed Jan. 16 in Westchester State Superior Court, accuses Mariano, 55, and Clara of pressuring the plaintiff, identified as Jane Doe, to remain silent about allegedly being sexually abused in a dormitory and shower at Ignite Life center in Gainesville, FL, and later at the Rivera home for an older little girl.
“Mariano and Clara Rivera do not condone child abuse of any kind and claims that they knew or failed to act on reports of child abuse are completely false,” Joseph A. routeRivera's lawyer, said a notification on Thursday. “The first time they heard about these allegations was nearly four years after the alleged incident, when in 2022 a New York attorney sent a letter demanding a financial settlement. This was followed by a second letter in 2023 from another Florida law firm, again demanding a financial settlement.
“The lawsuit seeking financial damages for Rivera's alleged neglect of alleged incidents that were never reported is full of inaccurate and misleading statements that we will certainly not stand up to in court.”
Mariano, the only player in baseball history to be unanimous elected to the Hall of Fameis now a pastor at Hope Refuge Church in New Rochelle, which supports the camp where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
According to court documents, Jane Doe complained to her mother about alleged abuse that she said took place at a 2018 summer camp internship. The mother reportedly raised the matter with Clara, who runs the parish's day-to-day operations, and she says Clara promised to investigate.

The abuse is then believed to have continued at the river home during a barbecue to which the claimant and the suspect, but not the claimant's parents, were invited.
