Marvel Combines Your Favorite Guardian of the Galaxy with Your Favorite Villain (Exclusive Preview)

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the story of Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper) has come to an end, which came to a beautiful conclusion in “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.” The story of Doctor Doom, however, only begins when Robert Downey Jr. returns to Marvel as a very different kind of Iron Man in 2026's Avengers: Endgame.

However, Marvel Comics is bringing this unlikely pair together for a special 40-page one-shot: “Doctor Doom & Rocket Raccoon” #1 – presumably by the publisher. the craziest crossover since Aliens vs Avengers last year — and Marvel has shared an exclusive preview of the issue with /Film.

Doctor Doom & Rocket Raccoon #1 by J. Michael Straczynski, creator of the film. 1994 Space Opera TV Show “Babylon 5” and a prolific comic book writer; “JMS” (as he's often called) just wrapped up Captain America. (Of course, he also wrote The Amazing Spider-Man #36, the oft-derided issue in which Doom cries after the 9/11 attacks.)

The issue is by artist Will Robson with a cover by artist Gary Frank.

The synopsis for Doctor Doom & Rocket Raccoon #1 is as follows:

“JMS UNITES INCREDIBLE DUOS FROM ACROSS THE MARVEL UNIVERSE! J. Michael Straczynski brings his incredible exploits to beloved Marvel heroes big and small in a series of thrilling one-shots! First up: Doctor Doom and Rocket, drawn by the inimitable Will Robson, do one thing he never wants to do: asks for a service that awaits the Rocket! Latveria, miscommunication and an emotional journey through space and time In the mighty path of wonder!

This isn't the first time Doom and Rocket have crossed paths. Back inside 2021 “Guardians of the Galaxy” no. 14 (by Al Ewing and Juan Friger), they briefly switched bodies; Doom, of course, did not enjoy the innocence of being trapped as a rodent while said rodent walked in front of him in his true form. How will their next meeting go? Check out the Gary Frank cover of them sharing a toast as Rocket hides something behind his back and Doom puts his finger on the button of a raccoon-blasting jerk to get an idea.

Doctor Doom and Rocket Racoon are Marvel's most unlikely team

The issue opens with a summary page explaining who both Doom and Rocket are and how they came to be.

When the true story begins, it begins on a literal “dark and stormy night” in Doom's castle in Doomstadt, the capital of his personal monarchy of Latvia. However, from there it becomes clear that the problem will not be taken seriously. Doom performs an experiment only to have his head explode, but don't worry because that there was only Doombot.

Doom goes to greet the guests at the door, only to look around and see nothing. When he looks down he sees Rocket outside in the rain, apparently crashed in Latvia after shipwrecks. This page reveals the title text: “Thirteen Days of Doom!” Is Doom going to deal with a raccoon that won't quit?

“Doctor Doom & Rocket Raccoon” #1 will be released in print and digital on January 22, 2025.
