The Shade Room previously reported that Nelly was scheduled to perform at Donald Trump's inaugural ball on Monday, January 20. The news first broke when CBS reporter Taurean Smalls shared it X (formerly Twitter) on January 17.

Now, the St. Louis employee is explaining his decision to participate in Donnie's celebration. Nelly joined the rapper Willie D for a conversation on YouTube where he talked about his choice, sparking a lot of reaction on social media.

In a video interview, Nelly made it clear that he was not performing at Trump's inauguration for money.

“I don't do it for the money. I do it for the (honor). I respect the office. It doesn't matter who's in office. Just like our men and women, our brothers and sisters who protect this country have to go to war and put your life on the line for any post, so if they can put their life on the line for any post, I can be damn sure it will work for anyone,” Nelly explained.

Willie D also pointed out all the backlash Nelly has received since it was announced he was part of the opening ball squad. He even asked Nellie how he would react to people calling him out for white supremacy. But the rapper said straight up that he needs proof that Donald Trump is white supremacy. “I would ask them to show me where he is white supremacy,” Nellie added.
