Nicole Kidman's tearful tribute to late mom: 'This is for you'

Nicole Kidman paid an emotional tribute to his late mother Janelle Ann Kidman when she received the International Star Award at the 2025 Palm Springs International Film Festival.

57-year-old Nicole received an award for her role in the film Baby girl on Friday, January 3, given to her Jamie Lee Curtis. In her speech, Kidman thanked Baby girl director Haline Rein and dedicated the award to her late mother, whom she said she “still mourns”.

“Thank you for giving me the opportunity to say, 'This is for my mom,'” Nicole said in her tearful acceptance speech. “My entire career has been to my mom and dadwhich are not here at the moment. I will still continue to work and give to the world because I love what I do and I love you all and I am very grateful for the privilege of being a part of the film community.

She added: “I'm sorry for crying, I didn't mean to. But I'm feeling my mom right now, so this one's for you.

Janelle died in September 2024 at the age of 84. Nicole had left the Venice Film Festival early on September 7 to return to Australia when she learned of her mother's death.
