BOSSIP followed the story of Robert Brooks and his brutal death at the hands of prison guards and staff at the Marcy Correctional Facility. This incident has sparked political fallout, public outcry and outrage on social media, and more information and new developments are being released almost daily. Previously, BOSSIP reported that Attorney General Letitia James recused her office from the case, citing a conflict of interest.

According to a new report from Local Spectrum News, Dozens of New York state legislators plan to sign a letter to Governor Kathy Hochul imploring her to permanently close MCF in the wake of Brooks' murder and the Correctional Association of New York (CANY) investigation York) which revealed evidence of rampant mistreatment among detainees. The letter is written by Julia Salazar, chairwoman of the Senate Crime Victims, Crime and Corrections Committee, and so far, 30 lawmakers are present to sign their names.

“I don’t want to talk about legislation, I want to talk about closure,” said Rep. Eddie Gibbs. Spectrum News 1. “Eliminate this issue and send a message to other establishments that this will not be tolerated.”

He continued:

“I don’t care about tweets, dancing or points; I don’t care about re-election efforts,” Gibbs said. “If someone is being systematically abused, you remove that system. You don't do politics.
