Prince William reacts to nanny's stepson's death in New Orleans attack

Prince William offered his condolences after hearing about the former nanny's stepson, Ed Pettyferwas one of the victims In the New Orleans attack on New Year's Day.

“Katrina and I are shocked and saddened by the tragic death of Ed Petfer,” William, 42, wrote in an Instagram Story statement on Saturday, Jan. 4, also mentioning his wife. Princess Kate Middleton. “Our thoughts and prayers remain with the Pettifer family and all the innocent people tragically affected by this horrific attack.”

William signed the note with “W,” his personal designation based on his first initial.

On Wednesday, January 1, a 42-year-old Texas man drove a rented truck through a crowd on New Orleans' famous Bourbon Street. Pettifer, who was 31, was one of at least 14 dead. The driver was shot and killed during a shootout with police.

“The whole family is devastated by the tragic news of Ed's death in New Orleans. He was a wonderful son, brother, grandson, nephew and friend to so many. saturday announcement read by the Pettifer family, shared with London's Metropolitan Police. “We will all miss him terribly.”

The statement continued: “Our thoughts are with the other families who have lost family members to this terrible attack. We ask that we may privately grieve Ed's loss as a family. Thank you.”

Pettyfer was the stepson of Tiggy Legge-Bourke, who previously worked as a nanny for William and his brother, Prince Harrywhen they were children. (William and Harry, 40, are the former's sons King Charles III and late Princess Diana.)

As the passage points out, so does Harry called his 2023 memoir on the notion that he is in the 'spare' line of succession to his brother William. William is the direct heir of his father Charles, 75, Regent of England. Harry immediately followed as William and wife Kate, 42, welcomed their three children: Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, nine, and Prince Louis, six.

While Harry is now fifth in line to the British throne, he resigned from his post as a senior royal employee in 2020. Harry and his wife Meghan Markle now lives in Montecito, California with her two children, Prince Archie (5) and Princess Lilibeth (3). Harry has yet to speak publicly about Pettyfer's death.
