Rihanna has sparked rumors about a new album several times since the release of her last album, ANTIin 2015. After cameras spotted the Fenty founder entering a recording studio, fans believe she's finally recording her ninth studio album. However, some fans think Rihanna Navy is getting ahead of itself.

The Barbadian singer was spotted on January 18 near a New York recording studio, looking quite cozy in sweats and sneakers. Hopeful fans are excited about the spotting, thinking she might record a new album, but more skeptical members of the Navy point out she might be recording something other than music.
@ririswrld tweeted: “YALLLLL WE WONNNN.”
Other fans claimed that she was more than likely recording for her role in the upcoming The Smurfs movie.
“Probably finalizing the Smurfs album”, @I am_alvin__ wrote.
Another X, formerly known as Twitter, the user wrote “There's no way she's still recording for the Smurfs soundtrack, so we'll have R9 soon, y'all.”

Although the mother of two might be recording new music, the Smurfs theory holds true. According to PEOPLERihanna has been cast as Smurfette in the upcoming film. Fans continue to eagerly await new music, even though almost 10 years have passed since the release of his last album. Rihanna nevertheless remains relatively clear about her desire to make new music. As a new mother, the singer focused on her family and being there for her children.
Referring to being a working mother, she said: “It’s very different. Balance is almost impossible because no matter how you look at it, work is always something that will take away time with your child. That's the currency now, that's where it's going. The magnitude of its weight.

In 2024, she said Entertainment tonight that she wanted to approach new music from a different angle.
“I think music, for me, is a new discovery. I rediscover things. I've been working on the (new) album for so long that I kind of put it all aside and now I'm ready to get back in the studio.
Nonetheless, she promised fans that the music would come eventually.
“I'll start, give me a second!” she said. “I actually want to go back and listen to stuff with new ears – with my new perspective, and then see what applies and what I'm still in love with.”

Although Rihanna has promised new music, she may be sending mixed signals. As previously reported, in November 2024, at the launch of Fenty Beauty in her hometown of Barbados, she gave a speech that hinted at retiring from music.
“I always say the music is what got the attention, but God had other plans for me,” she admitted. “I was able to create in other ways that were very sincere and authentic and organic and authentic to the things that I love, so it doesn't even feel like work. But when you bring it home, I will be able to express to you what this day means to me to be able to celebrate it with the people who deserve it most.
Rihanna fans should hold on to her latest album as it may be even longer before we receive new music from the hitmaker.
