Ron Funch calls Travis Kelce the golden retriever of football

Comedian Ron Funch found a friend Travis Kelce last year — and now he's sharing a glimpse into his friend's endearing personality.

Funsch, 41, posted a clip from his December 1, 2024 concert at the Kansas City Comedy Club via Instagram on Sunday, Jan. 19, revealing that he's a major fan of the 35-year-old Kelce. The couple first clicked when Funsch appeared as a guest star Are you smarter than a celebrity?led by Kelce, last October.

“I started doing this game show … and it's hosted by Travis Kelce,” Funsch was seen telling the crowd in the video. “We started becoming friends, you know? And then he knew I was coming to a show the week of Thanksgiving, and he hit me up on Instagram, and he was just like, 'Hey, are you coming to my town, let me know if you something needed.”

Describing the Kansas City Chiefs tight end as a “human golden retriever,” Funsch explained how Kelce invited him to attend an NFL game while he was in town.

Funch explained: “He's a good guy. He's a good dude and not only did he get us tickets (but) an hour and a half before the game, I get another little noise on my phone. He said, 'Hey, I'm about to go into game mode, I'm going to turn off phone, but before I do, I just want to make sure everything's okay.”

Kelce's check-in surprised Funsha to no end. “You prince charming mother f—er. He's amazing, he's a human golden retriever. That's probably why he's so good at football. He just sees the ball and says, 'I've got to go get it.'

Funch briefly touched on the analogy in time an interview with Us Weekly In October 2024, in which he discussed his Are you smarter than a celebrity? appearance and said, “(Kelce) brings his traditional golden retriever energy of a person who is very personable, yet down to earth. He's quite an amazing gentleman.”

At the comedy gig, Funch also opened up about Kelce's relationship with Taylor SwiftThe 35-year-old, whom he began dating in the summer of 2023. “I think he's too good for her,” Funch joked in the clip, which drew loud laughter from his audience.

Funchess' praise for Kelce extended to his caption, which read: “The rumors are true… @killatrav is a good dude.”

The Instagram clip came on the back of another public meme that reiterated Kelce's legendary status. According to the former Chiefs linebacker Sharkandric Westwho played for the Chiefs from 2014-2018, Kelce once forged lingers at the Chiefs hotel so West, 33, doesn't get fined.

During the interview with ESPN posted on Tuesday, Jan. 21, West said he was stuck in traffic one evening when he spoke to Kelce on the phone and said he would miss the team's evening curfew.

When West got to the hotel, Kelce was standing outside waiting for him because he didn't want West “to be the only one who got in trouble for being late.”
