Skeleton Crew episode 7 evokes Anakin Skywalker's darkest moment

All Star Wars projects exist in a range of intensity, from the Saturday morning adventures of animated series like Rebels to the hyper-mechanical, anti-Imperial politics of Andor. But every project also has a range. Rebels , for example, has a lot of cartoonish sequences full of themes and dad jokes, but it also cuts through all the heavier moments every now and then.

For the most part, “Skeleton Crew” stays on the younger side of things, as should be clear from the four pre-pubescent characters. Sure, there are references to some more adult-oriented ideas, but the show has generally stayed in the Amblin Entertainment sector of dangerous but not dark childhood adventure stories. it said “Skeleton Crew” episode 7“We're Gonna Be In So Much Trouble” is a brief moment that recalls one of the darkest moments in the entire “Star Wars” franchise.

After an entire season of the characters telling the kids they can't trust Jodh Na Nawood (Jude Law), he proves all his haters right by returning to his pirate ways. Climbing back onto the Onyx Cinder as it breaks free from its old pirate crew, Jod completely removes his mask, yelling at the kids that they are weak, annoying, and generally useless. He does all of this while wielding a looted lightsaber that he found earlier in the hidden treasure trove of legendary pirate captain Tak Rennod. While it's pretty clear that Jodh actually has a soft spot for kids and that he's mostly posing, it's still hard to watch him threaten kids with a blue lightsaber and not think about it. Lightsabers are always cool, but not always scary. When they are, it's usually red that does the damage. When Jod swings into Onyx Cinder's cabin and ignites his stolen blade, the kids drop in fear, and rightly so. Although not quite filmed, this scene will naturally conjure up images of the youngsters hiding in the Jedi Council Chamber in Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith.

Perhaps the most interesting part of this scene is that it is quite possible that Jodh himself survived this attack. In “Skeleton Crew” he looks to be in his late 40s, which would certainly have made him old enough for the Jedi to pick him up and take him to the temple on Coruscant before or during the Clone Wars. We also know he's received at least decent Jedi training, as he tells Vim (Ravi Cabot-Conyers) in an earlier episode, “Your focus determines your reality.” the same line Qui-Gon Jinn delivers to a young Anakin in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace.

If Jodh wasn't at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant during Order 66, he would have been on a mission with his master fighting in the war. Given his age, the first option seems more likely, which would mean he's all too familiar with the damage a blue lightsaber can do in the wrong hands.

It's hard to tell how much proper lightsaber training Jodh Na Nawood has done yet, as he hasn't done much with the stolen one other than brandish it menacingly. Likewise, his arc has largely been a copy-paste of Long John Silver from “Treasure Island” (or “Treasure Planet”, as you prefer). After a run of bad luck, he runs into some kids who have a real chance of landing him the big payday. He comes to take care of them, but when the treasure is in sight, he turns his back on his supposed character development to deal with the loot. Even his pirate name, Captain Silvo, is a reference to the character.

It seems obvious that in episode 8, Jodh will have a change and regret the way he treated the children. But with only one episode left, we might end Skeleton Crew Season 1 with some big questions about Jod's past. His Force abilities don't appear to be as strong compared to some of the other characters in the Star Wars universe, but he could still come in handy if the rumors are true that some of the Skeleton Crew characters will appear in Dave Filoni's upcoming film. The movie “Star Wars”. This movie is meant to be the culmination of the “Mandalorian” era, and it would be interesting to see how Jodh interacts with some of the other Jedi and Jedi-side characters like Ahsoka Tano, Ezra Bridger, and even Grogg, himself a survivor of Anakin's Jedi Temple attack.
